Legend has it that 300 li farther east, beyond a single door, lies a world no one has ever seen. Humans live on one side. Ghosts live on the other. Trapped somewhere in between are lowly little monsters who survive by collecting fear for the underworld. Dora, Xiaohei, and Xiuxiu are three of them. During one of their missions, they encounter Mian Nan, a twelve-year-old human boy who has crossed the forbidden door in search of the monster that killed his mother. Driven by revenge, he enters a realm where humans are never meant to be. Forced to travel together, the three monsters and the boy accidentally awaken spirits sleeping inside ancient musical instruments. As they journey farther east and venture through ever deeper doors, a hidden truth begins to surface—one that even the dead were never meant to know.
